It's just one study though. There are more that say women peak in their 40s.
I don't know if it's a case of settling for what's available or what, but old people still fuck each other (gross) so there's something there.
I asked my dad the same thing. He just told me the older you get, the more you find women your age attractive.
I personally haven't hit that point either. College-age women are on average more attractive than women in their 30s, to me at least.
They dress less sexy, things start sagging, and they get more cranky.

I think the "floor" for attraction increases more slowly than physical age does. For example, I was plenty attracted to 12 year olds when I was 12 myself, but at my age I look at such a person and my eyes only see "kid," no attraction whatsoever. I bet that applies to you as well. My wife was 16 when I met her and while my eyes still register her old photographs as pretty, neither would I want to date that teenage kid anymore, either. The floor has gone up, just not as fast as the years have.
Generation/culture gap also reduces the real attractiveness of a lot of younger folks once those 20 year olds are decades rather than years younger. I see plenty of theoretically pretty 20's-looking gals who're completely ruined by being tattoo'd up tramps or dressing like slobs and I feel only disgust for them, not attraction. At the same time as you age you can appreciate people like well-kept 50 year olds when 20-year-old you wouldn't have looked twice.
I could see a 40's age range peak for married couples where familiarity and experience is also a significant factor. Probably not so much for singles.
