What Sirken said in your quote is 100 percent truth and it is what I have been saying and warning about from the inception of this server.
On one hand you have people who love Everquest, the game. They love it even more with a dash of red to add some spice to the game world and immersion. On the other hand you have the whole "comeatmebro" holo/fishbait/VZ/TZ cluster who could care less about Everquest except for the nature of the game allows for griefing others in a way that is just not possible in most other games. Some came here to play EQ, some came here to grief. I blame them for the current servers low pop, not Everquest.

The Sirken quote really bugs me. That may not be everquest but it also wasn't a barren desolate wasteland where everyone had to solo their way up to 50, resist where different, and there wasn't an extra form of experience lost. Why are all these things acceptable differences but we can't get with the times in any other fashion? It's blatantly pigheaded.

Just taking an honest approach to it... When EQ came out in 99' I'm assuming the majority of current players were in their teen years, where there was an abundance of time to pour into character(s). Flash forward 13 years later, a lot of us (presumably), although I'm speaking for myself, don't have the same time to put into leveling and character development. Whether job or family, some of us can't sit for hours grinding it out. I LOVED eq pvp (from Rallos), and from when I played in beta it seemed like the server would be a hit...and yes...before insta-50/good items.
A few friends and myself started playing on live but just found we didn't have the time to put in like we had intended. Obviously it shouldn't be a cakewalk to 50 but I found people struggling to put balanced groups together with the abundance of solo classes, and those who were soloing were putting in some serious time to make it happen. People come to p99red to just have fun and play EQ in the chaotic way that it was when it came out. Keeping in mind all services rendered are free, a lot of the bitches and gripes are pretty trivial and I think most people can put up with things that aren't being addressed immediately. I feel the exp rate could be increased and would definitely attract me (and others) back into putting some time in. TLDR; I feel a good majority of players just don't have the time to grind it out like they did back in the day. Possible increase in EXP rate
