With great power comes great responsibility. I probably couldn't avoid the temptation to give me or my friends some cool GM event gear or something, so it's a good idea I'm not a GM. On Live guides and GMs weren't allowed to play on the server they worked on.

I'd vote for a slap on the wrist on this one. I would have to say that Sirken was a victim of a Helen of Troy impostor, he's human and not Agent Smith after all and made mistakes. A few people that talk too much smack on here doesn't equal what the majority thinks.

To think, most people enjoy this service for free, Devs/GMs do this for free, and it's for the most part a great experience for those who like classic EQ. Level 54+ can get tedious with all the epic timesinks and level timesinks and scarce content for lots of high level players, so I think tensions run highest in this spectrum of players. But the scope of the complaining over the past decade really doesn't match the level of "slight" that players are getting from "favoritism" played by GM's, even if some of the worst of the charges are true.

If I had been in Sirken's position, I would probably resort to trolling the fuck out of everyone after 15 minutes being logged in as a GM.
