Myabe so, but I ask you to watch this section of one of her videos, again if you have already. Not only does she not mention that the protagonsit is either a boy or a woman, but she champions it as handling subject matter people assume she thinks is offlimits based on her concepts as an off and on value.

It's a really good example of her challenging the games industry to up the anti regarding the content of their story driven games.
You see really good examples. I see her comparing apples to oranges (setting design vs game mechanical design) when she tries to shame developers for being historically accurate to the way women are treated in a timeperiod/setting while supernatural things happen to be involved.

That game that she's pushing so hard about the child dealing with alcoholism looks about as fun as Depression Quest, or in other words, it's something I'm not going to want to pay money for when I'm looking to be entertained which is what I buy games for. It's possible that you buy games for different reasons, however you are clearly in the minority and I hope you realize that when you are talking about a for-profit industry, being fair to minority groups as far as customer bases are concerned is irrelevant.

If hitting the largest demographic was the onlything anyone cared about, we'd all be playing different versions of this: http://www.leftbehindgames.com/

I don't really feel like the subject matter needs to be handled delicately or metaphorically. I do understand there are some people that do feel that way though. My father for instance did not enjoy Django Unchained, whereas I loved it. He felt that the content was too direct and awful, and did not like sitting through humans being that terrible to one another. I felt the opposite and thought that the subject matter was handled brilliantly. Humans are shitty, and I want to see them be shitty if it's part of the story.

While saying that, I do think that games like Papo and Yo can be interesting. Binding of Isaac is another game that has an interesting way to frame child abuse in a religious/potentially cult household.
