I do actually think *some* of that bunch genuinely believe they're trying to do good work, much like communists.....and like said communists, they probably won't understand how it'll all go horribly wrong and leave the world worse off for their efforts. They'll get a "Soylent Green" future (the city-slums, at least, if not the human reprocessing) and won't even understand where it came from. The folks pulling their strings definitely know, though.

Yeah, I'd agree with you there.
It's like most progressives I know, they are so rich and happy because they've never had to struggle a day in their lives. And because of that life of low stress, they think know better than anyone because they seem to think like that from their top down position they can get a better view of how everything really works. And also they think they worked hard, built something knew, and made a shitload of money doing it, so people should listen to them after all they are not wrong, obviously.
And so they drive straight into a brick wall. Every time. (lucky for them they were getting a shitload of money and so the crash is irrelevant to them)
I mean that's basically your modern progressive (unless they are poor I dont know what those ones think, ask horza)
