P1999 isn't illegal. You won't go to jail for logging on here. Torrenting software is legal when you already paid for said software in the first place (as most of us have, in this case). At worst those of us here might have broken EQ's EULA and former-Sony could've terminated our accounts with them. Since Daybreak recognized P1999 it's effectively legitimate.
I don't bash folks who enjoy Live, but I see it as a different game than P1999. Sour grapes seems to be part of human nature, however, so some folks seemingly have an innate drive to disparage whatever it is they aren't using at a given time. In this very thread there's lots of sour grapes--from both sides of the discussion.
Phinigel is clearly superior for that portion of players who want to be able to reliably participate in mid-and high-end raids on a fixed schedule of their own choosing.

The act of logging on P99 itself is not illegal. However torrenting Titanium certainly is unless MAYBE you have the titanium EQ disks in your possession but I'd wager the vast majority of us do not. P99 itself (the server) is without question not legal and should Daybreak decide to could end it at any moment. They've just agreed to look the other way and allow it to happen.
I don't really give 2 shits about copyright law. I'm just pointing out the absurdity of people saying basically "LOL U PAID FOR EQ WAT A DUMBASS" while they play on essentially a pirated private server. If you don't understand why that's dumb I don't know what to tell you.
