we used to constantly go to EQMac or TAKP project to test stuff for fixes on red, until they stopped doing fixes on red making said research pointless

my personal theory is that "cast/heavens_myst" freak harrassed rogean IRL in some way that made him hate red forever

its insane to think people liked that freak and ran off actual cool community members like kungen

they wouldn't be dumb enough to run that server code they'd just have to copy it and make enough changes to look like it was original -- the algorithms for hit/dmg is still in a super grey area too and if everything is perfect and almost a copy paste would be a hard day in courte would need to switch variables around and make it looook home brew and stuff

so i doubt takp is running original code/or totally accurate algorithms... tho VANILLA eq thru Gates of discord should definately be a national treasure available to all but u have to use ur SSN to log in and u can only have one character active at a time and a max 3 characters on ur entire account

One problem with takp is it has the murderised newbie zones where they messed around all the spawns for the newbie quest armour. It really nerfed how good a starting zone Misty’s Thicket was.

Imo scrabbling together cloth from goblin workers and decayed skeletons, brute forcing a set of tattered armour from wolves, camping rawhide from undead hill and orc legos was the best armour progression.

I’m such a grumpy old grognard.

Disappointed we’re losing some players recently, I’ll be honest I’ve taken some time off red too.

Disappointed.

Heaven on Earth, is bountiful amounts of Red servers. Even Luclin and Pop ones. Just fulfill my humanly flawed needs, of me not being the only one to play classic more than luclin.

And then I play Luclin and Pop red, imagining taking a different path in life, where I never have to become a Jedi.

MY RANGER BOW. I hear they are better now in Luclin.

I'd play Luclin anyway. Just need to do other things first.

The newb quest armors are really good news for bad noob zones like tox forest.

They really make the progression better in late game that’s for sure. Gives a lot of treasure to collect in a more guided way. I think they were a good thing when they come out.

But I agree the cloth to tattered to leather to ring nail to banded or bronze progression was the best, then to sol ro armor.

On live there was a ton of ivy etched but it’s like the rarest armor in the game here lol
