I'm just finding this thread for the first time, and while I'm not a graphics professional, I had something I wanted to suggest/inquire about.

For a quicker fix for updated textures(although with lesser quality than the ones done so far I'd imagine), rather than initially doing them all manually, would it be possible to just apply current scaling/supersampling/smoothing filters/algorithms/techniques to all the textures via a batch-job to get a quick initial set complete, and then worry about more detailed "hand-done" versions later as time permits? I'm not sure if you're familiar with these or not, but I'm referring to things like 2xSaI/Eagle/HQX, which are used by many console/computer system emulators and such. Unfortunately, I don't know details on how to implement these with the graphics software you're using, so I'm not much help on the specifics.

Some good general info on them is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_a...ing_algorithms

It just seems logical to me that batch hitting every small-size game texture with something like this would be great for an initial less time consuming update. Even just an increased scaling of 2x2 with 2xSaI would be a measureable improvement I think.

Renk that's awesome. Helps a ton. This will save me an hour or two a face.

I did some tests this morning. I've attached 4 versions of the same face. The original is the original texture. The hand made is the one I made from scratch. The pixel upres is one that I made with one of the upres methods Renk mentioned with some quick minor smoothes. The last is what my plan is to do now on.

I wasn't satisfied with the pixel upres version on its own. With some smoothing and sharpening I am going to be able to use the skin on the face the hair as a starting point to build on. These two things alone will save me at least an hour a face, maybe two. The only thing's that I'm still planning to hand make are the eyes and maybe the mouth.
