Just to get things rolling as far as communication of the guild outside the game, try to use IRC as often as possible. Even if you are AFK most of the time while in there, the more people idle in the channel, the more active it will become.

If you've never used IRC before, it's a simple chat-room kind of server, stands for Internet Relay Chat. To get the windows client, go to www.mirc.com, it's a fairly straight forward setup. Once you setup your nick/alias (use your p99 forum names for now, so I'll know who's who for the time being,) do /server irc.rizon.net, then /join #uthgard. You can even register your nick with a password so that no one can steal your name there and we'll always know it's the real you, syntax is: /msg Nickserv register passwordhere emailhere, then you'll get an email with a confirmation code you'll have to enter and that's that.
There's another way for all of you guys to communicate via live chat on iRC, for those who never used it before, it's a chat client - very easy to setup.

Windows Client software: www.mirc.com
server: irc.rizon.net
channel: #uthgard

It's a great way for everyone to meet everyone else who will be playing, to ask any questions you might have, or discuss everything from class specs to game mechanics, even play times or guild events. We can even leave messages in the topic section of the channel, so that even if no one is in there, you'll still be able to see it, kind like an ingame MOTD.

1) Download & install the client at http://www.mirc.com/get.html

2) When you start the app, just put in your nick, preferrably same one as your forum one

2a) What you can also do is register your nick with the server, so that only you can use it on that server, it's a good security measure.

3) In the Servers section, add "irc.rizon.net" with the default port: 6667

4) Then hit "Select", it will take you back to the Connect section, then hit "Connect"

4a) An alternative way to connect to a server is to simply type "/server irc.rizon.net" in the console/status window, or to change your nick without reconnecting by doing "/nick newname"

5) Finally type /join #uthgard, and you're done

Cya in there!

P.S. There are IRC apps for Smart Phones also (search: irc client,) they're even easier to setup and connect with.

Hi guys, haven't played p1999 in a while, but I still check in.

I'm currently playing DAoC Live, but will be playing on Hibernia when Uthgard comes out. I never played on Uthgard 1.0, but I tried the Origins server last year at release and it was pretty garbage. Excited to get into Uthgard should be way more fun then playing the Live DAoC servers.

Main will be a Mana Enchanter and eventually will level and template a Nightshade.

Cool man, glad to have you aboard. The main reason I liked Uthgard 1.0 was the polish and overall stability of things, compared to other servers.

UPDATE: Added a little how-to guide for using the character planner / builder. This is to help plan your build in advance. It can be found at: http://play.nixian.eu/index.php?page=charbuilder

The first picture is a tutorial on how to use it, and the second picture is an example Druid spec.

mIRC 7.1 - This is the first stable version of mIRC with Unicode support and some (limited) support for Wine users.
As for the DAoC itself...

HowTo: DAoC client under Linux (e.g. Ubuntu)

Postby Metty » Thu Feb 12, 2009 8:27 pm

So, you have decided to try out this shiny new Ubuntu thingy and want to play some DAoC?

Getting DAoC to run under Linux is quite easy now-a-days:

1.) Installing Wine and Mono
Assuming you are using Ubuntu, just do it the easy way: Go on "System" -> "Adminstration" -> "Synaptic Package Manager", and click.
Then look for "wine", rightlick -> Mark for Installation.
Do the same for "mono-2.0-runtime", and install these packages by clicking on "Apply".

2.) Downloading DAoC
If you already got some version of DAoC from your windows partition, you can skip this step. But I would recommened to copy your DAoC Directory from your NTFS to your linux partition.

Otherwise you can probably download the DAoC Setup like the windows one, and run it with the Wine Command. Just go on "Accessories" -> "Terminal", CD to the directory where you saved the installer by doing e.g. "cd Downloads/", and then type in "wine <NameOfTheInstaller.exe>".

3.) Setting up DAoC Portal
DAoC Portal is still in a very unstable developement state under Unix systems, but still should run good enough for basic usage. Download the DAoC Portal setup, and run it again like the commandline you used to start the DAoC Installer. (You may also connect .exe directly to Wine and Mono apps!)

NOTE: I recommend you to install DAoC Portal directly in the DAoC directory you'll be using, as it will be much less painful. Sometimes the dolloader won't work when run from a different directory

After installing DAoC Portal, open up another terminal (Accessories -> Terminal), and CD to your daoc directory (cd ~/games/DAoC e.g.).
Then type in "mono Portal.exe". If you did everything right, a daoc portal window/config dialog should open up. As GameDir just enter a dot "." - If you did everything correctly, you should see some of your client details in the bottom right corner. Close the dialogue.

4.) Setting up the wine settings
Before running DAoC, you have to change some Wine-Settings. Open the wine configuration by either typing "winecfg" in your terminal, or by clicking on Applications -> Wine -> Configure Wine.

Add "game.dll" as an application; select it and switch to the graphics tab. Disable "Allow Pixelshader" here, or your daoc will probably crash after the loading screen.

5.) Connecting...
Go back to your daoc portal client, and look if the serverlist has loaded. If yes, try to select the appropriate server (you may have to use your arrow keys, the list control is quite bugged); or enter the IP under the custom server tab. Then just enter your account name, and password, and press Enter (or click on the play button). DAoC should load up.

Notes
These steps just worked for me, so they may not work for you - Just test it. If you have anything to note, just post it.

Add me as Nightshade please, I played one when the game came out and liked it a lot (such as sneaking up to someone, killing them, or causing confusion among the ranks of another realm).

Default NA Player

I'll be looking for a NA guild. I'm in the PST time zone and plan on playing Hib on Uth. Mostly in groups but sometimes duo with my kid. I would enjoy playing Warden/champ but we all know any group will pick up 2nd Druid/Hero (det5) before those classes.

Still undecided....Druid maybe.
