Woman and men literally have differently-shaped skeletons, especially in hip and leg bones and joints, which plays no small part in the rationale for having separate men's and women's divisions in the first place. No amount of hormone therapy will change that. The other girls on that UPenn swimming team almost universally hate it that some dude just waltzes in and smashes them when he was mediocre at best competing as a man. What's worse, they have to express these feelings on condition of anonymity because they know the lynch mob will come for them if they speak out. Their entire tradition is being erased and they can't do anything about it due to social pressures, that's got to be suffocating.
Bottom line is that people's good will is being exploited to allow these kinds of complete charades to continue happening and yeah I think that's kind of a shit deal for those girls.
