So having done actual prison time. I can make the argument about misgendering being akin to violence. Everyone has their personal identity and respect of how someone views themselves is just as important as self respect when you are locked in a cage.

When someone presumes to be a good fighter, they will do everything they can to continue that personal ego identification, and when you decide to challenge their core persona, its the same as walking up and slapping the person.

Imagine 65 years old women or someone around there, older, starting to show it, works a long time to set herself up properly, effeminates, perfume, makeup, clothes. You see her out and about, and you don't take the time to walk up and shout at her for being old and presuming she is anything but a hag now.

Misgendering is as close to assault as you can get without grabbing someone. It immediately opens them up to harm, both from others and personal psychic torment that happens from attacks on ego.
