Ahhh, I see what you're doing. You're moving beyond the possibility of hex gene mutation - which yes, I know to be true - to any observed mutations that have been beneficial. The answer is no. But that's another can of worms, wouldn't you agree? Because it would be hard to argue that all mutations are detrimental. I don't see that as where you're going because it's a dead end.

The point I was making was that macroevolution has been observed in a laboratory setting. That those experiments produced efficient/beneficial change aren't even part of the same argument.

Alchemy is about the transmutation of metals (eg lead into gold) the creation of a panacea (e.g. elixir of life) and discovery of a universal solvent (paraphrase from wikipedia). None of these things are based on scientific principals but, like astrology giving rise to astronomy, are pre-scentific proto-sciences that eventually start applying the scientific method and become true sciences.
