The best way to handle any problem is not to look at evidence and use reason ... it's to go with whatever your first instinct is, and stick to that "solution" no matter how poorly it works.

I'd be more worried for the precedent it sets on a wider scale. Cash is still king for local businesses.

Exactly. It's going to be far more than just the banned games that are impacted; any game that doesn't want to be kicked off Steam is going to avoid adult elements as a result of this.
