And why's it called homophobia instead of bigotry/oppression? Because back when the word first showed up in the 60s, it was about the fear that someone might think you're gay when you're not.
Then in the 90s, it was more of the "I'm afraid that I might be gay" which became projected forms of disgust and hatred, often on actual gay people. Like in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 1996, when this guy took 5 self-proclaimed heterosexual men into a room, fitted them with a device that measured penis circumference, and showed them gay porn. 4 out of the 5 "straight" men had a sexual arousal response. Another reason it's a fear thing: You're afraid of someone sticking his hoohoodilly in your pooper without your consent. That's the #1 reason you stay out of prison, right? Well congratulations! You're now the most sympathetic human to the condition of being a woman in the 21st century! See, you're scared that a man(gay or maybe just prisongay) will treat you like a woman (rape you) and so you're afraid (just like women live every day afraid of every man they know) of these potential rapists (although at least you only have to fear the gay ones, mostly) And finally: It's a phobia because of how emotions work and biochemistry happens in the brain. Hate is a powerful survival response. We hate those who are different from us. Why? Because your ancestors killed or enslaved everyone different from them and you are walking, typing proof of the evolutionary success of that policy. But where does hate come from? When it comes to people, we generally fear those who are different. When we were in caves and people came along with another skin color, speaking another language, dressing differently, eating food that smelled differently, worshiping a different god, even fucking differently, we were afraid. Why? Because of fight-or-flight. If you're going to fight, having dilated pupils in the dark might give you the edge over your opponent. And so on for the rest of them; it's all a 41% haste +100 AGI +100 DEX +100 STR +100 ATK buff when cast at max level. We don't get to kill things that often nowadays, so instead we get on so-called "news" networks and talk about stuff like "HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA" and how scary it is because that's how we sell more books and other media for when our troll talkshow finally goes off the air. It's still all rooted in fear: Either the fear that a gay dude is going to stick it in your butt, or a fear that your wife is going to run off with another woman, or the fear that those dreams you're having are real and you're the very thing you made fun of and called "faggy" all through high school. | ||
