How is it racist to care about how gang violence impacts poor black communities and keeps them in a perpetual state of poverty? Yes, I think it's good to fucking arrest, prosecute and lock up violent criminals (rape, assault, murder, armed robbery). Fuck them. You don't get to do that in our society, and if you do you should be in god damn prison. I know, I know, it's super racist to just want the law applied to people who break it.

One thing that makes me sorta long for death as an escape is the double standard treatment of the N-word. It’s not like I want to be able to use the N word, but the continuing never-ending double standard just makes no goddamn sense

I’ve had it explained to me as black people taking the insulting power out of the word by making it their own. Sort of like Tyrion in game of thrones calling himself a dwarf “wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you” (a quote I love)

But it’s just not true. They didn’t take any power out. And it absolutely can be used to hurt someone, that’s why it’s never said and still referred to as the N-word

Now granted, to some degree this works for any bigoted term. Gay people can and do sometimes call themselves the F word, Hispanics can jokingly call themselves their derogatory terms. And it’s all sort of done the same way, to remove the power of the word. But just like the N word, it doesn’t work. You just don’t notice it as much because no community runs with their derogatory term like the black community

There’s still the “newness” of it I guess. Only a few decades ago it was still used to hurt. So it could still be seen as a revolution to take ownership of the word in an attempt to take the power away. But as I get older and the years go by the newness of the revolution just isn’t as novel. It just gets more tired. And moving outside the US isn’t an escape. It’s probably going to be this way until I die of old age. And I’m already tired of it
