I think peeps need to be honest that a huge part of the reason you don't want to switch is that you don't want to start at the bottom. Which is a sensible feeling. But don't let that lead to 20 pounds of cognitive bias in a 5 pound bag.

Sheeit I debated for a long time whether to abandon my blue mage. Haven't logged him once since switching tho.
yep, the longer the wait the more you'll regret it when you inevitably make the switch.

or when you try green99 and find out its teams and you get stomped out of every legacy camp cus you didnt practice in the years leading up to it on red.

make the [smart] move. Try red today!

That made no sense, you literally just posted... /facepalm

On topic though, I think Red just isn't great for the casual gamer like the majority of people who play on P1999. If I could commit a lot of time to EQ then maybe it would be worth it. I like blue because it's chill and I can AFK when I want and not have to always worry. That's pretty much it to be honest.

Really it's the exact opposite. You level way faster on Red, despite PvP setbacks. There's less competition for high-end experiences once you get to the higher levels. If you have limited weekly hours yet want to do what you didn't get to do back in the day (which is my situation) Red is way better.

you're right passing on untwinked new players LFG & requiring people to wait in line for the opportunity to camp a mob for 8 hours is totally casual.

you know compared to loging in and xping with people in rawhide and runinnig around loling and having fun not chasing any pixels at all.

Well I don't do those silly things on blue. I like the slow steady pace of leveling up the way I want to without having to worry about who is going to ruin my day (the journey is the whole point of why I play, not the endgame). I only have a few hours to play here and there (not everyday either) so taking a death (with potential coin loss) would not be fun and I would just have to log off after running back to my corpse and LNS. Like I said, blue is far more casual and easy going which caters more towards those who can't play as much.

I loved "world pvp" in WoW. Not duels or arenas or battlegrounds, but just encountering players out and about in the world and fighting with them, or not fighting with them, or wondering if they were going to fight with me or not fight with me. Like someone said, that added layer of "am I safe?" when 90% of the time you were.

That being said, how does EQ pvp compare? I know literally nothing about it, but I don't see how any melee character could compare to a caster in this game. I'm sure there are ways, but I just don't know them. Also what are the rules? What does loot and scoot mean? What keeps a group member from randomly turning on the rest of their group? Are there level restrictions? Is it a free for all or is there some sort of faction/structure? Do you lose XP when you die in pvp? Or items or anything?

I'll try red. It's free. Why not? But I sure could use some more information on what exactly is going on in EQ pvp.

This deserves a good answer, because there are good answers to all of these questions. Unfortunately I'm crunched at work right now.

That being said, how does EQ pvp compare? I know literally nothing about it.

The pvp has a lot of varriations to it. It can be a gank fest, where you see a name in the zone you're xping in and you have htat feeling 'oh shit im going to see some pvp becuse I know im in range' and then BAM some wizard just starts nuking you.

It can be group v group where your group fights another group of people, or group v 1 like you have a small group of pals porting around looking for people in range to engange. or 1 prerson doing that etc.

it can be mass pvp, where there is all kinds of shit going crazy all over the place and you just look for people to hit or follow assist calls from your leaders.

I don't see how any melee character could compare to a caster in this game.

melee's actually do quite well against casters if they are clever. there are lots of "tricks" that you can use as you get more experienced to dodge spells.

A melee has a big advantage indoors vs out doors. in mass pvp a melee usually can get more kills too becuse you dont have to worry about mana and you can duck in and out of the fight.

Also what are the rules? What does loot and scoot mean?? Are there level restrictions? Is it a free for all or is there some sort of faction/structure?

rules are 5 level range (level 56 can hit a 60 but level 55 cannot) no factions, just your pals vs your "less" pals or strangers. Loot and scoot is designed so if a player doesnt want to pvp and wants to just get his corpse they can call LNS and they must be allowed to loot thier corpse, and must 'scoot' from the zone and not return for like 1hr.. idk ive never called it.. ok i didt once like my first week but i felt dirty afterwords.

What keeps a group member from randomly turning on the rest of their group?

Just honor and respect i guess... if you are being a jack off and are OOR to me and I can port you can bet im going to cast port, kick everyone from the group and drop you off in tox if i can [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Do you lose XP when you die in pvp? Or items or anything?

nope! just self respect.

you can lose your plat - leading many to keep larger sums in Elf Leaf, rubies, etc. Just a small example of the type of cool little things that give red spice.
