This is the wiki:
Quote:
Postmodernism is a broad movement that developed in the mid- to late-20th century across philosophy, the arts, architecture, and criticism and that marked a departure from modernism.[1][2][3] The term has also more generally been applied to the historical era following modernity, and the tendencies of this era.[4]

While encompassing a disparate variety of approaches, postmodernism is typically defined by an attitude of skepticism, irony, or rejection toward the meta-narratives and ideologies of modernism, and often calls into question various assumptions of Enlightenment rationality.[5] Common targets of postmodern critique include universalist notions of objective reality, morality, truth, human nature, reason, language, and social progress.[5] Postmodern thinkers frequently call attention to the contingent or socially-conditioned nature of knowledge claims and value systems, situating them as products of particular political, historical, or cultural discourses and hierarchies.[5] Accordingly, postmodern thought is broadly characterized by tendencies to self-referentiality, epistemological and moral relativism, pluralism, subjectivism, and irreverence
The green party has nothing to do with criticizing notions of objective reality, morality, reason, human nature -- or anything like that. Neither does Marxism or Libertarianism from what I can tell. Most ideas they espouse were largly there in the modernist era.

The only time I remember postmodern theory really helping me out -- is to notice that Americans have the idea in their heads that we have some kind of right to tell other countries how to run their laws or economy. It never hit me until then that "collateral damage" is not a good excuse for killing people in other countries unless our hand is absolutely forced...it hasn't been since world war II...and even then it wasn't at a certain point when we insisted on Germany/Japan's unconditional surrender.

All wars since Vietnam have been bullshit wars...you can make an argument for Korea I guess.

The postmodern belief in the 21st century is that its OK for grown ass men/women/whatever to believe in fucking God as far as im concerned. I got suckered into this myself when I was going to college.

It's no fucking ok to teach little kids fake shit like Jesus follows you around and doesn't want you to masterbate. Or that your stupid religious ideas are have the same merit as science in a "different way" than science does. Bullshit.

OK this the platform in oregon for the green party:

The party's platform emphasizes environmentalism, social justice, social democratic policies, respect for diversity, peace and nonviolence. The party's platform outlines the following positions and policies:[8]

Repeal of the USA PATRIOT Act
Immediate end to the U.S. military occupation of Iraq
Public campaign financing for all campaigns for public office and strict limits on political campaign contributions
Supports net neutrality
Supports instant run-off voting, proportional representation in the Oregon State Legislature, and proportional allocation of Oregon's Electoral College (United States) votes by Congressional district with the end goal of electing the President solely by the popular vote with the abolishment of the Electoral College (United States)
Voting rights for convicted felons and ex-felons
Passage of a Single-payer health care system
Protection of a women's right to abortion and supportive of legal physician-assisted suicide
Supports legal same-sex marriage including gay adoption
Establishment of carbon taxes to promote use of renewable energy
Opposed to nuclear weapons and to using nuclear power to generate electricity
Supports legalization and cultivation of hemp and marijuana
Supports a ban on patent claims on naturally originating organisms and plants
Supports the establishment of a federal Department of Peace
Reduce the military budget of the United States to less than $150 billion annually
Supports emphasizing prevention and rehabilitation over incarceration and repealing the Oregon Ballot Measure 11 (1994) that established mandatory minimum sentences
Supports the release of nonviolent drug offenders from prison
Opposed to private prisons
Abolish the death penalty
Abolish the state's lottery

Where does all that ultra-abstract shit no one cares about fit in?

Korea was after WWII...and i originally said since WWII or since then or some shit. It was in the 50s and it was about communism....but South Korea wasn't on board with communism to the same degree as Veitnam...so we had a point in that war more than other wars on communists. We have reason to stay unlike other countries as well. The war was over in 3 years...coincidence? It seems like when you are fighting a war for the right reasons they don't take as long.

I've never voted green party. But from what I can tell...its the Democratic party pushing weird postmodern identity movements that accomplish nothing. Not the Green Party. The Green Party is getting a second look lately -- because the Democrats are completely bought out and everyone knows it.

There is a popular argument that Bernie shouldn't run as a Democrat but run as a new party -- because the Democratic one is too corrupt. They are not at all popular in national elections and not even local ones really.

This postmodern crap takes the form of student movements that get a disproportionate amount of media coverage...because they are a lot less threatening to elites than things like the teachers strike in West Virgina. It is precisely those that refuse to talk about the economy that are the most postmodern in their thinking.

Does anyone here really want to argue that gay marriage is a postmodern political idea? Or how about Civil Rights in the 60s?

These are the things left leaning people historically supported...this new shit is not backed by hardly anyone. It didn't even show up until after citizens united.

the untruths that you are unhappy with are important behavioral regulators. most of us are incapable of developing a nuanced assessment of the entirety of a situation every time action is demanded of us and when we are, we are often incapable of rejecting carnal impulse in favor of our reasoned conclusions. perhaps the most damning aspect of our nature is that absent some external framework of restraint, reason will almost always align itself in our minds with carnal impulse.

the purpose of god is accountability. there are two alternatives that I am aware of: accountability to one's group and accountability to the law. The former imposes regulation via shame for non-conformity and is at odds with egalitarian notions of individualism and universal tolerance. The latter is only as effective as it's ability to surveil and penalize the population and is prone to corruption. There is no escaping the eye of god and there is little escaping the eye of society at large, but absent a robust totalitarian police state, there is much that escapes the eye of government and much more that it is simply blind to.
Forcing god on people is pretty bad too, albiet were not there yet, but we're really close to that line and we've never quite had an appropriate buffer, and it shouldn't be anywhere near the Federal Governments position that GoD is important or unimportant.

P.S. Gates of Discord IRL would be an epic adventure. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

These are stages of individual development. Society and culture has also developed along these same lines over history. We see these strata emerge in our politics today.

I won't even touch your hyper-destructive thought patterns about denying spirituality to the masses. No offense, but you're still at a very immature phase with dealing with your relationship towards Christianity. I had that happen to, as a fellow Southerner.

it's not about One God. It's not about Jesus, Krishna, Mohammed, or Buddha. Praying and believing in any of those would do a lot for your moral abilities, mental health, and social support.

Try reading the book called Spiritual Children to better understand the power of spirituality and community.

It's not about God. It's about God. God isn't real in the sense that you think we're talking about God. It's just a symbol dude.
Your saying that I am somehow relativist? I think the truth is relative and there is no objective truth?

Exactly what are you saying really?

That I would be more popular and socially connected if I went to church? Yea no shit. That's the only reason people put up with this illogical crap to begin with.

The right seems very postmodern indeed on this forum. Way past explaining why universal healthcare is a bad idea on a materialist level -- and pushing some spiritual idea about how it is vaguely immoral because it is lumped in with a bunch of other unrelated philosophical crap and thus bad.

You know Warren Buffet, Chase, and Bezo's recently came out and admitted that single payer is a way better way to do healthcare. They're just trying to find a way to profit off it before we go down that path. That's not really about a spiritual evolution...its just math...too much GDP going toward medical bills.
