Three of us trying to play tonight (2:45AM Eastern). Middlemand worked immediately for two of us. Did not for the third - nor did the ipconfig commands.

I don't know why middlemand will not function correctly for me. I edited Eqhost.txt as follows:
[LoginServer] Host=localhost:5998 #Host=login.eqemulator.net:5998 I then right click middlemand.exe and select 'run as administrator' But when i open Everquest and login, i see all the same servers listed (not just p99), and I keep getting the 'an unknown error has occurred' message when i try to connect to a server. I thought middlemand and eqhost.txt were to make it so i only saw the blue, green, and red p99 servers

Same issue - i can see all the servers and population
But get an unexpected error when trying to click into blue. Are we all using the same launcher possibly? ~ XANTHRO

Why is this not being addressed or at least publicly acknowledged by the team?

This worked for me. To simplify: 0.- Back up the file eqhost.txt 1.- Download EQUtils 2.- Run "EQTool.exe" 3.- In settings/general, enable "login middleware" 4.- Launch EverQuest while EQTool running
