I'm thinking that when I hit Platlord the information that I found (the giant list I provided earlier today) was just the accounts that he had set up and ready to go for sales. They were all parked at the same spot, each toon either had 499,999 platinum or three items, all of them were the same race/class/face/starting stats.
When the admin popped him he took Project1999 off of his sales website, but he never stopped advertising on some of the other "underground" forums. This leads me to believe that he had more items and coin stowed away somewhere else. But he couldn't have had all of the platinum on one single account. That's how I got busted, because I was the top three richest characters on the server.
I have several theories that I came up with while I was digging around then. I won't publicize them all because if I hit the nail on the head it might screw something up and I don't want Ephi's hard work to go to waste. But one theory is: A long long time ago on this server there were quite a few plat dupes, some with merchants, some with other bugs. Someone could have had the idea back then that one day they could profit from this server and decided to hoard an unimaginable amount of platinum. Explaining the items is simple with this theory - IB pretty much all left the server at the same time and a lot of them cashed out. That could be where a lot of the multiples of items came from.
Unfortunately I think this theory is incorrect. It's probably something a lot worse, and a lot more complicated.

Im not sure which items you're talking about having multiples of, but I know personally players who have over 30 fungi's on their account, among other very high end items. I know for a fact that they acquired them through legitimate farming means. If you're talking about raid items and such I'd start with the guild who's locked down project1999 for 2 years and openly sells/advertises raid loot.

Of course it's easy to point your fingers at the enemy.
In all of my searching I only found one TMO member's name. And it was on a document that was created a few months after the release of Kunark.

Can someone summarize the Stabbyjoe story for those of us who missed it?

Then I used some of it to gear / Epic these very nice characters.
After fiddling around for a while, I realize, "This game isn't really fun anymore once you have everything imaginable".
Yeah, no kidding. This is the whole point - no game is fun when you beat it by cheating. Adults already understand this. The children on this server yet to learn this (self-evident) lesson need to go somewhere else and stop draining the fun out of it for those of us who already know how games work, and want to just play.

Honestly, someone needs to code up a big red button that these people can click and which spawns the pop-up message "Congratulations! You won the game!", or introduce them to Progress Quest so they will go away and leave the rest of us alone.
