This is don cheadle, one of the blackest people i have ever seen. According to genetic testing on the PBS Documentary African American Lives 2, nearly 1/5th of his ancestry is of European decent. The program goes on to show this:

58 percent of African Americans have at least 12.5 percent European ancestry (equivalent of one great-grandparent);
19.6 percent of African Americans have at least 25 percent European ancestry (equivalent of one grandparent);
1 percent of African Americans have at least 50 percent European ancestry (equivalent of one parent); and
5 percent of African Americans have at least 12.5 percent Native American ancestry (equivalent to one great-grandparent)


However since I have yet to find any reputable sources in relation of white people with african american descent, I cannot comment on the reverse. However with the taboo of mixed racial households in america mostly gone, coupled with increased populations of both the latin and african american communities in America, I highly doubt that any of us will be considered a single "pure" race. I am sure there will still be "pure" white europeans, mostly in northern europe, but that is mostly due to geographical isolationism.

We are not dogs, we are human beings, our genetic diversity makes us adaptive.
Do not get me wrong, as a person there are certain cultural aspects of humanity i do not understand or like. I personally have never found dark skinned women attractive. I am not stupid enough to think that as our society becomes more interconnected that we will not have changes to the makeup of humanity.

This is an interesting topic.

I believe that differences aren't confined to our appearance. They run deeper than that. This is where all of the conflict happens. However, the differences are relatively small. Studies show that while african americans have lower IQ than the national average, nearly all of it can be explained by socioeconomic factors like poverty and past injustices. Even if there was a 1 point IQ difference, so what? This is the common theme when you examine the differences between the races. We need to stop patting ourselves on the back because we're white or black or purple or yellow and instead start patting ourselves on the back because we were born into a land with opportunity.

This is a ridiculous discussion. Race is shorthand. If you think humans are actually broken into cookie cutter genetic subgroups like "White", "Black", and "Asian", you're an idiot.

But saying "race doesn't exist" is pretty silly, too. The majority of people that use the term aren't using it as a genetic marker -- they're using it to refer to the social construct or just a general physical appearance. If someone asks you to describe Tupac, I think we're all pretty cool saying "Well, he was black..." without necessarily taking the time to qualify that he shares a vast majority of his genetic makeup with every other human being and may or may not be more similar genetically to certain people with lighter skin than to other people with darker skin.

It's just not realistic to expect the basic outline of race to go away -- at least not any time soon. Even if we stop collecting 'racial' data and asking about it on forms, nobody is going to stop referring to other people as black, white, Asian, Hispanic, etc. It's a fairly natural phenotypical distinction.
