I didn't think those things HBB, but I was also a 19-23 year old with a mediocre high school education and very little direction in life that joined the military primarily because I knew if I didn't I'd get roped into being a druggie burn-out townie. Most of my beliefs while I was in were in line with the shit that comes out of the mouths of neo-con talking heads like Rush and O'riley. So my perspective at that point I don't think is something really worth discussing.

I think what you are getting at is right - there is a power elite in this nation and they are causing irreparable harm to our, and the worlds economy. However, I also think that the average america citizen is really no better. Our lifestyles are subsidized by the loans we receive from other nations. The way I see it, there are really numerous tiers in the chain of exploitation that is going on right now. While the average American isn't at the top, they are much closer to the top than they are the bottom. Both the power elite, and the average American are benefiting from the relationship between the US and other nations right now, however, once the house of cards collapses I think the avverage American is going to be feeling it much harder than those at the top because those at the top knew the whole thing was a farce while most Americans are completely oblivious to what is going on. While that kind of sucks, I don't think the excuse of ignorance will be much solace when simply providing oneself with the basic necessities of life becomes a daily struggle.

Then again, my time in the military did make me slightly pessimistic and taught me to prepare for the worst, so maybe I'm the one who is ignorant.

I think what you're getting at is that even though we're the 99% here, we're still the 1% of the world. The vast majority of Occupiers know and acknowledge this.

We have to clean our own house before we'll be in any kind of a position to effect real change elsewhere. Our entire system is set up to support this lifestyle; as long as it exists, perpetuation is inevitable.
