Highly speculative. With roughly 500 known extinctions since 1900 it's hardly fact to claim that we're in the middle of a mass extinction. People love to believe they are living in historic times. This phenomenon I believe accounts for much of the climate change scares, mass extinction theories etc.
When you zoom out on global timelines you will see that the earths temperature is not that hot. The rate of change has spiked a bit but it's just too small of a sample size to draw many conclusions from it.
Past mass extinction events are staggering, roughly 75% of all species being wiped away seems to be a good watermark for claiming a mass-extinction. The highest numbers I found which are highly speculative say that roughly 10% of species are gone extinct since humans hit the scene. Forgive me if I'm not ready claim that a 10% mark signifies a MASS EXTINCTION play foreboding organ music.

Love how this guy just out of hand dismisses an entire fields research and conclusions. We can "zoom out" we fucking live here. Temp goes up = bad. Ocean rising = bad. If you dont agree with it you just dismiss it, why even comment? lol
Oh its all "highly speculative" compared to what?? All your research??
If one in ten of all people on earth died, you would say "meh, not a mass dying." wow.. thats just fucking dumb. I cant even tell you how fucking stupid that is.
