Imagine Harry out in the woods, wearing his invisibility cloak, carrying a .50bmg Barrett, turning Deatheaters into pink mist.
Having not read that book, isn't harry potter a little kid? I've had the displeasure of having had to lug around a bolt-action barrett before. Those things aren't exactly meant for quick pointing, to say the least....the term "boat anchor" springs to mind. Your imagined scene might well result in slapstick comedy rather than dramatic action.

I think there being few or no modern weapons in harry potter has to be chalked up as a similar sort of problem as to why star trek spaceships don't transport bombs into each others' engine rooms: Sometimes the pragmatic action would make for a really dull (and short) story.

Season 3 episode 7 Voyager, they did that.

The reason you don't see it often is because you can't transport through Shields.

A professional would be more discreet.

I was being really very highly extremely sarcastic.

Obviously discretion and strategic precision that leaves the enemy confused and disorganized, unable to retaliate is preferable.
