Full groups have a lot going against them on p99, imo.

It's bad enough that they tend to be in places that can't really support a full group... like 6 people sitting in lcy at 9 pm est when there are 30+ people in KC, so you've got 6 people only killing 20 mobs per spawn cycle even though a strong duo could be killing that many mobs but only splitting the xp 2 ways instead of 6. But then add on that people tend to slack off in full groups, too many people play poorly in full groups compared to solo/duo/trio, and too many groups are willing to accept anyone they can find with /lfg tag turned on just because they have room for more... and it gets ugly.

Why are duos generally awesome? Because enchanters pair up with clerics and then duo the shit out of efreeti for godly xp and some loot to boot. Because necros pair up with rogues and then the rogue is doing dps for 95% of the time they are together. Because good players find other good players and go to places where the xp is great.

Why do full groups generally suck? Because people think that just because a group can have 6 people in it, it should... so they invite every random wizard they can find who knows what /lfg on does to join, and then that wizard hides and takes a 15-minute afk "med break" even though he was only at 60m.

Yeah I agree, my fastest XP has been with just two peeps in a group.
