The internet has some grim shit on it to be sure. I am usually not long-term bothered by visuals, even if they are incredibly depraved. But sound. That sticks with me...

I used to frequent a forum for boxing fans. A political argument over the US's wars broke out and an ultra ITG decided to post evidence of the moral grounds for those wars...

The sound... haunts me 5 years later...

Probably, but people need to vent. Maybe if we just ignored it and let the mod remove the posts without posting anything at all, he might stop... but not likely. It'd take a few more runs like that to convince him to leave.

But there are too many people being affected at one time. Response and outrage are inevitable. A person many have the fortitude to let it die out, but communities not so much. It's a perfect catch 22 that happens all over the internet, and it creates the perfect environment for douchebags like cast and the various other species of trolls that exist out there to thrive. It's the nature of the beast.

Nope, his actions are not vindicated by what we do in reponse. In any event, if we have to sit silently and swallow our gall, enduring these unacceptable violations in the hope that he might stop sooner that way - that is an even bigger win for him. What this poor mixed up sap wants is attention and revenge for "wrongs" done to him. Kind of reminds me of a serial killer. We don't let them perpetrate their crimes in the hope that they will stop if we don't respond either.

Denouncing him and getting people involved in an effort to possibly permanently keep him off the boards is an appropriate and right response to his sick form of what is essentially, internet bullying. Another possible outcome is that we might be able to strip away is anonymity and thus he could potentially experience RL consequences for his outrageousness.

Sociopaths come in all flavors. Some kill kittens, some rape kids, some do dumb stuff on the internet. The world would be a better place if they all got loaded up in a c130 and combat dropped over a nice empty stretch of ocean.
