Some people burn it off at the gym playing basketball or a quiet game of chess - anything to feel like the king of the sandbox.

P1999 provides an outlet where they can become irresponsible teenagers once again and feel like they "own" the world. The protective veil of the internet only catalyzes this transformation. "Rich" people likely do not play this game unless they suffer from an intense inferiority complex and need a window to vent their frustrations.

We play because we enjoy it. Just as on live, competitive guilds consist of people who are both capable and willing to play the game in this fashion. It's far easier to be in an "uber" guild these days. You're neglecting the advent of the Batphone and the tethered 4g cell phone. This has utterly revolutionized who can play when and where.

I find absurd the proposition that competitiveness is deep personality flaw.

However, I do find it telling that you're so adamant about sharing your psychoanalysis in such a forceful way. Perhaps psychology is the sandbox where you wear the crown? Or is a cigar sometimes just a cigar?
