the purpose for shaving in the military was so we could maintain the seal on our gas mask. hence why prior to that being standard issue, beards and shit were acceptable. the hair on your head just as clean as the hair on your chin. as far as discipline, i dont see how shaving could instill or even remotely exercise discipline.
