I too am getting:

"Loading serverlist ...
Error while retrieving newest version.
Could not reach webserver. Trying again in 10 seconds."

Boo.

Step 1: Go to your EQ directory
Step 2: Create a shortcut of eqgame.exe
Step 3: Right click the shortcut & open "Properties"
Step 4: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" <--- your target will look something like this, add patchme to the end:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme

I'm confused. Isn't that what the step by step Starting Guide for EQ Emu already says to do? How were people doing it before?...
