This is incorrect information; the guards never attacked you for practicing spells on yourself in Classic. You and your pet were free game for your own spells.

Maybe it was during my short stint on Rodcet Nife. Blue guards could have acted differently.

Byproduct of someone attempting to rationalize something that was occurring from memory with no evidence. You could cast on yourself all you wanted, whether it had a dd component or not.

Code is pretty lol right now, attack someone invis but kos to guards while you're amiable and the guards jump you.

This is why faction assist was the most superior system ever devised for guard aggro. I can see how it might be an asston of work for the developers though so hey, this is a lot better than nothing.
