Anon - What's the point?

purposes of anon that i can think of

don't want people to know where you are? (maybe power raiding multiple zones.. don't want to give up tod?)

or don't want to get spammed for rez/port/group?

believe it or not some people will just invite anybody in their level range

On my wiz I have had random people send me tells when I was in PoSky asking if I could come to OT and port them to Gfay.

People go anon to avoid getting asked for ports/rezes/buffs/plat and to avoid tipping off guilds they are in competition with what mobs are up.

I considered putting this in Rants and Flames because people who put Anon on annoy me. But I'm also curious if there is truly a legitimate reason to do this. Are you hiding your class? Are you hiding the zone you are in? I find it so incredibly annoying to do a /who all zonename only to show up and and there are several anon high level players killing everything in sight. I don't care that they are there killing non exp giving mobs. I just care that I took the time to travel to the zone because I thought it was empty and find out that it's being camped by a few high levels.

What is annoying is people being so nosey that this actually bothers them. The main reasons for me is that with 10 minutes of not being anon / roleplay I get a million tells asking me this or that when it can 9 out of 10 times be googled. I figured it out on my own why cant others, I really dont mind helping people but there are way too many beggers on this server and being bombarded with so many tells in a short period is ridiculous. Another reason is that I am in a raiding guild so being roleplay is required to hide what we are doing incase a raid mob pops. No matter the reason really everyone on this server holds a right to play how they want under the rules of the server and if the reason they are anon just to be an ass it doesnt matter, they have a right to it, get over it.

I play a level 41 druid who's never been anon. I get at most one tell every couple of hours about porting, and that usually from people in the same zone. Far from overwhelming. I think a lot of players here are just so scared of confrontation - what's so bad about typing "/r sorry, can't", or if you're obviously raiding in plane of sky or something, just not replying?

I often get 30-40 tells in an evening for ports and 20 or more tells in the day time.
And no i don't advertise OOC.
During the day on weekends it's much more.

I don't go anon at all,but if someone else wants to that is their business.
There sure are a lot of people here who claim to love classic EQ, except for all the details of classic EQ.

Focus is key in EQ since it takes so *!#$!@#$@! long to accomplish anything compared to other mmos. If I can exclude a few distracting tells by going anon, so be it.

The reasons people go role/anon have been covered. As for me I go role or anon when a GOD or dragon has spawned or I am in a raiding zone. Sometimes when I am actually LFG and on /role or /anon it is b/c I actually forgot to turn it off until I do a /who. Just a user error.

A tactic I would suggest is to do /who all (insert zone name here). Then pick someone from the list and send them a tell asking to do a quick CC . This saves travel time and you can even make friends this way.


Also speaking from one of higher guilds on the server, we mostly use vent and guildchat which cuts out the need to show what class you are
