Well tonight was the straw that broke the camels back.

I'm pretty much a new player to EQ having only played a bit back in 2004. I was bored about a month ago and tried EQ2 which I found stupid. I found p1999 and jumped in.

I went with a Halfling druid because I wanted to eventually be able to travel around easy. the first couple of weeks in Misty Thicket were interesting and I didn't have to much trouble reaching level 9. I went to EC at level 9 and have spent about a week trying to hit level 10, and now I've spent this last week trying to hit level 11.

As I continued to play I continued to die more frequently. These deaths were followed by a cursing spree because they represented about an hour of time lost.

I died 3 times tonight in EC on surprise griffin attack from behind, and the other two times were against blues. Both times my roots failed and I was unable to reroot or get away. The Blues were hitting for max damage almost every time.

I'v tried grouping but after hours of killing orcs I seem to gain very little XP. and its not easy to get in a group.

My wife was worried about my mental health and wanted me to quit. I think she's right.

I love what you guys have built here and classic everquest is alot of fun. I just don't have to nerve for it.
your first mistake was making a druid

EQ is tough, at least relative to other mmorpg's. if you play WoW or EQ2 you can easily solo to end game in probably a few weeks if you really obsess over it. I'm told that it's possible in EQ as well for certain classes (though i've never been able to do it), but the game is more about grouping and knowing where to go than just being able to burn through levels with ease. That's why so many of us continue to play this game that lacks the graphics and updated engines of other mmorpgs. If you have yet to hit 11 and your mental health is being called into question, maybe you should stick to a game that won't inspire cursing fits on the reg.

Even if the OP isn't around, the issue of rage quitting or giving up on EQ is a problem that will never go away. My first MMO was EQ in late 1999 and I played it for years. After many expansions that made the game too clunky for my tastes I played City of Heroes, EQ2, WoW, DCUonline, Aion, PotBS and others and I was able to enjoy all of them (never as much as I enjoyed EQ but what can you expect.) The trick is knowing how the games differ and playing to those differences. You can't solo through EQ to Max level in a couple of weeks like you can with some games...and if you do you're kind of missing the point. If you can't enjoy sitting around chatting, making deals in EC, leveling your trade skill while medding between kills, and spending lots of time traveling and exploring then EQ might not be your game. Most games nowadays are built to feed you levels and achievements at a set pace to keep you feeling good. I can log for hours and not even kill anything and feel good because I just like the nostalgia of being in Norrath.
