How many of you knew someone who was constantly being played by a guildie or friend? Half the time my RL friends had their toons being rolled into raids and what-not because they were short a bard, chanter, healer, etc.
I knew people who quit all the time and their brother/friend would pick the account up. Some would actually sell and some would keep it active for that reason. While I (personally) wouldn't play a toon I didn't create I can totally understand people who would want to. Perhaps not allowing the account auctions in EC would fit more with the "spirit of classic" as it certainly was a ban-able offense back in the day. I mean, you could even get liquor during prohibition but nobody was yelling "We are selling booze!" from the alley. | ||

If you will notice my post is a exact copy of your logic...the fact that you say it is dumb is ironic at the very least.
1. It is classic. just because it was not allowed by sony does not mean a lot of people did not do it and enjoyed it as part of their eq1 experience. Guess what..you're not supposed to be playing this emu either according to sony...and yet here you are. 2. /ignore is a wonderful feature, and character sales spam is no more annoying than normal sale spam. 3. No matter what you do people will cheat. Guess what! RMT is against the rules...yet people still manage to get it. Guess what! Make char sales illegal and they will still get them.
