Yup. I can almost always beat traffic on a bike in TDot by blatantly disregarding bike laws.
It gets me where I need to be, and I've never been ticketed so whatevaaa
yeah I haven't stopped at a red light/stop sign since i was about 15, ridden across the country and never had a cop look at me funny

urban and urban sprawl are where bike travel really shows its advantages.
Urban Sprawl is also why we have so many cars. You can bike fine in sprawled out cities, the problem is getting people onto the bikes.

yeah the lack of infrastructure I think is the thing that discourages people. In reality it doesn't matter, but its hard to convince a bike noob that its cool to ride on a 3-lane highway with no shoulder.

Boston and NYC are far worse than LA has ever dreamed of being when it comes to traffic, both vehicle and foot traffic. It's almost impossible to be able to bike around here 100% of the time.

this is an exaggeration ime but i have never lived in NYC for an appreciable amount of time. I found my bike infinitely more convenient than trying to jam a giant tin box through those cramped streets when I entered NYC by bike and hung out there a few weeks. But I've never tried to ride in a New York winter or anything, so I won't call you a retard.

I've found the same in Tokyo, Buffalo and a number of other urban areas with no bike infrastructure. I've been in pretty much every major US city on a bike. Always better than public transportation, always better than driving, and always fun.

The only real exceptions I've found are Texas and the South, where the people are of such low quality it's uncomfortable to be so much smaller than they are on the road.
