Couldn't be more wrong. Every drop is recorded in the same way as every trade.

2) NPCs pick up items so if you drop something inside the range of an NPC they will grab it before you have time to swap

3) NEVER announce when you're drop transferring, people can only steal your stuff if they know there is stuff to steal (and considering there is no way to penalize people for stealing in this matter, if you even consider it stealing, it will be gone)

If you're going to drop transfer, know what you're doing first. But in general there is no reason to drop transfer. Just ask someone to do a transfer for you. Plenty of kind people that will help. The servers are extremely inflated. People aren't hurting that bad for your solo farm gear.
some incorrect claims here... drop transferrers everywhere should rejoice! with the gm darver around, any item you drop on the ground is SAFE. he will ban the wrongdoers for picking up your loot and return your goods on a silver platter as it is his duty in the eyes of tunare. brad bless and happy drop transferring [You must be logged in to view images. Yes I could have traded them to a player but the idea is to have a repeatable way to get loot out of the tunnel when I’m down there solo. So I was practicing

You know what else it could have been? An npc picking it up from z axis right? Seb is weird like that. I was at the safe spot. Is there something underneath or above?

I did a test with a worthless item after and it was also poofed. Then I tried a peridot a few times and it wasn’t poofed

There were a few in classic for sure. Hans(l?) in Qeynos had chat text for when he did it.

I like to find a spot inside a city thats easy to get to, and make that spot my home.

And camp there everynight, and keep all my characters camped in there, so drop transfers are private, and easy.

Its like having a little apartment in freeport if you do it right.

My understanding is that CSR doesn't have visability into who picked something up. NPC can definitely pick things up as I've seen it happen right in front of me, as OP now has as well.

I think the key is it doesn't feel like stealing if its on the ground. If you walk past $100 and pick it up it feels like hey its my lucky day. That doesn't mean I'm going to punch someone in the stomach, take $100 out of their wallet and feel good about it.

I pick up everything I see on the ground. Its usually just fishing grubs or empty mage summoned bags, but you never know!

I’ll say a couple last things about drop transferring high value items. It can create unnecessary temptation for other players and potentially causes a lot of work for the guides. I don’t reccomned
