Why do authorities always let the public know when a terrorist "acted alone"? Why is that important? And what does it even mean to say they acted alone, if while acting alone they declare loyalty to other terrorists who do the exact same things, for the exact same reasons?

I just find the "we must understand the root cause" thing so galling at this point. Insisting to the public that yet another instance of a completely obvious and identifiable pattern of global terrorism should be thought of as somehow isolated strikes me as flagrantly irresponsible and cowardly.

The cart goes after the horse. Our legal priors and process outweigh any individual criminal act.
