The cringe about to happen by the GOP House:
The news is we are heading for a government shutdown and a presidential impeachment. One of the leaders of the right-flank gave a big speech on the floor of the House. It was a speech directed to the leader of his own party in the House; the speaker. He basically said, hey Mr. Speaker, if you pass a budget that our group doesn't like, we will fire you. We have the votes to end your speaker-ship and we will call a vote every single day until you are gone. But in true GOP cringe what he really meant was... Look we know you are going to pass a budget this year and we are not going to like it. Soooooo you have to give us something we want or we will fire you. The number one thing they want is a shutdown because a shutdown comes with a ton of media attention for them as as, media attention is their whole ball game. But what changed was the right-flank basically said that a shutdown wouldn't be enough, they wanted something more. They want impeachment. The Speaker really didn't want to give them that, but he did... Technically, he just began the impeachment investigation. If he doesn't go through the impeachment at the end of the investigation, the right-flank will just threaten to fire him again and he will do it. So basically, in exchange for being able to pass a budget at some point this year, The Speaker is trading his right-flank a shutdown and an impeachment. The reason The Speaker doesn't want to do either of those things is he is worried they are going to hurt his party in the next election and he wants to grow his majority. Right now he only has a majority by five votes which has made his life a living nightmare because it means he just gets taken hostage over and over again by his right-flank. Meanwhile his right-flank knows if he's successful in growing their majority... Ironically it just means less power for them. Which is why they are fine forcing The Speaker to do things that could backfire in the next election. Having a narrow majority lets them remain the decisive faction. And if forcing a shutdown for media attention seems like a really weird strategy.... It is because the rest of normal voters (sane GOP, Democrats and Independents) are not the target audience. The minority MAGA audience of voters are the target audience. (Voters who get almost all of their news from a certain cable news site or echo chamber podcasts, Facebook feed and extreme right radio hosts.) It is a sliver of politicians to work with a sliver of media to reach a sliver of voters. GOP is going to lose very hard this 2024 but as long as the right-flank nuts can drum up enough support for themselves in their home states with their local nut jobs they can keep their jobs. They are once again manipulating the GOP party as a whole to save their nutcase MAGA skins. | ||

Origen find peace in this world even when others disagree with you and don't do what you want.
