Cyberpunk update:

ive been roleplaying as Rob Schneider's character from the original Judge Dredd movie wandering around hacking vending machines for about an hour now.

I've put some serious hours into modded unity daggerfall. That game is, in several ways, the pinnacle of the series.

There's something about a well constructed background in 2D games that just doesn't translate into any other medium. Looks fantastic. I remember when I was completing FF4 on my SNES last year I was blown away by the mode 7 sliding graphics. Truly added a sense of grandeur to the final boss.

those old NeoGeo arcade games like Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown and others were so fucking good at beautiful background stages and pixel art animation

2D Figthers like that are some of the best examples, and they typically had phenomenal soundtracks.
