I said probably 5 times that I didn’t believe the person who told me about that tradition, figuring they were just messing with me, until they looked it up

All religions have fucked up shit in their past customs though. Some are still practiced like child brides for example. However, just like marrying kids is frowned upon in the world, so is this practice and it’s hardly ever done anymore except for the hard liners mostly in NYC who live and breathe the Torah.

Now it mostly seems to be used to disparage Jews even though the mass majority condemn the practice.
