this really depends on the situation... i usually play in 1st person, however when im running or moving through dangerous territory i will scroll the mouse wheel out to see if anything is following me...

but seriously how the fuck do you ever do anything well in 1st person? i use 3rd person even in dungeons that a small as fuck and i have always played an iksar so im tall race to begin with.

fuck i even climb ladders in 3rd person, i know how to push my scroll up button...

swimming is a diff story.

1st person is severely crippling to anyone who has to be aware of the situation (ideally the whole group), and I get worried when I see a tank spinning around to see if anything is behind him/her. There aren't any advantages to 1st person over 3rd- except in tight corridors, but in that case, zooming in with a quick turn of the scroll-wheel solves the problem.

I view this the same way as I view clicking hotkeys vs keybinding them. Both will work, but you're undeniably better off at least using a few keybinds and saving that mouse hand for character movement (not so much an issue with EQ.)
