Sullon had the distinct disadvantage of coming out later than 1999 when the internet world had expanded significantly and the name of everquest had much appeal beyond the bounds of the DnD style fantasy players that originally were most enthusiastic about it.

So sullon launched and never enjoyed the balance of role playing inspired players against normal weirdos who kinda hate the game and want to break it.

Vallon, Tallon, and Rallos all had a great mix of players that we will never see again. Eisleys' Vallon memories are because there were actual roleplayers involved and respected the game and wanted the game to be good for all players and communities not just after their short term gains. Additionally it wasn't as clearly identified for years what was a BEST IN SLOT item and how rare any particular best in slot item was. Once those things were more solidly identified like they are here on p99 people can go full psychopath in order to obtain said item.

X teaming would be day 1 standard on red2.0 if there were soft coded teams, is only one example.

My guild Knights of Vallon was once asked by Defiant to help them take down VS because they didn't have the numbers. We wouldn't get rolls on an VS loot but if any regular dungeon loot dropped we could roll on it. Wouldn't you know it, a t-staff dropped on the clear in. Defiant being Defiant, they kept the t-staff.

I suspect that Defiant was a gigantic zerg because they understood that in order to do raid content on a PvP server with a +/- 8 level spread (not that bluebie four level spread like Rallos), you had to have a zerg big enough to PvP while your raid force took down mobs. In the end, it's the fault of EQ's developers for creating the massive bottlenecks that WoW avoided to great success.

I don't think there should be hard coded or soft coded teams. There should be temporary teams that dissipate over the life of the server.

Rallos level range was probably selected more for pvp viability. When item loot is in play a character with an 8 level advantage is a virtual guaranteed win. A 4 level advantage was still huge but a group could handle that and a group of PK's was rare until max level.

You guys should have turned on Defiant the second that T staff dropped and you didn't get a roll.
