Outlands is a custom UO map - and that is for the best as it makes the world smaller and allows for modern knowledge to make a more "classic" world - Feels like the P99 version of UO to be honest. I am really enjoying it.
Its dumbed down to basic classic UO mechanics but also has some custom flare to keep people playing long term. Very good shard. Its like what we want P99 to do but they refuse (some custom content but basic EQ without the complications of all the insane expansions). I made a dexxer mace/bard and have amassed about 40k in a couple of days. Started my miner today and going to get my crafter going next. Long term goal of a Mage/Tamer for end game content

Outlands is just meh. The new map was fun for a while but it quickly devolved into the same problem every other server has.
Everyones a tamer because it's stupid overpowered compared to other specs. And it's all wolves and no sheep. You spend the entire time avoiding conflict because people run around in teams on coms with perfect specs that have been playing UO literally for the last 20 years non stop, so don't stand a chance fighting back. I don't want another taming simulator with roving gangs of reds aiming to ruin your day. | ||

Yeah taming is insanely overpowered, even just provo is pretty ridiculous pvm wise.
You definitely have to roll with a crew, if you go it alone you don't stand a chance against reds. | ||

Its easy to shift the balance of power. Use more people. Summoners are also pretty powerful if you get 120 spirit speak. I got taste id, eldritch, exceedingly book and cast flame strike 10x in a row some times.

Outlands server is really fun - It's classic UO with changes that make sense - smaller map, custom dungeons, reduced skill options (good), enhancing skills to make more builds viable besides everyone being a tamer/mage. Imagine if EQ gave wizards clarity, let enchanters ONLY charm humanoids, Druids animals, Necros undead, and gave all hybrid tanks Defensive, and also remove all the stupid restrictions Bards have late game.
The balance is fantastic and the people running the server have essentially made UO2 IE fix the obvious fuck ups that the original staff made or couldn't see because of emergent game play. The revolution is here, come play - I have only been PKed 1 time in a week of playing and the focus of the servers awesome custom systems are PVM oriented while allowing people to still be piece of shit PVP killers if they choose. But by in large the server seems PVM because they offer other outlets for real PVP via tournaments, guild wars, and town invasions so its not just 10,000 reds ruling every dungeon. im shocked how good UO is in 2021 on this server and I'm barely scratching the surface.
