I believe Sony always owned EQ, including Verant, up until the 2015 Daybreak spinoff. Sony's video game properties were haphazardly managed during the mid/late 90's, with numerous name changes and reorganizations. Verant during its short existence was independent from Sony Online, but both fell under the greater Sony umbrella.

I first learned of his existence when I was on my level (at that time) 36 or so Necro.....I was trying to get that Erudite Female in the tower on the center isle. I was minding my own business and ate a HarmTouch, then a hit or two from Kermit the UndeadFrog and he killed me!
