Bethesda is making the biggest mistake you can make. And it is the same one Peter Molyneux made with Fable.

Don't ever, EVER, try to bullshit people into thinking your game is going to deliver tons of revolutionary features and emergent gameplay when the damn thing was developed primarily ON AND FOR CONSOLES.

Since Daggerfall their games have gotten progressively more disappointing and mainstream.

Morrowind wasn't THAT good. Oblivion was worse, but had its own points of improvement.

What they need to do is add a co-op multiplayer. Period.

There's this feel that Morrowind & Oblivion have to them, even on your first play through, that while the game is enormous and you could feasibly never run out of stuff to do (ex. picking all of the poppy flowers in Oblivion) - at any point you could main track the story line and finish the game in a few hours.

Morrowind was good, but not amazing. Oblivion was great. I'm hoping that Skyrim will be even better.

All of you need to get off of the trolltrain that you use in other subforums here and actually say how you really feel about something instead of just spewing feces from habit. This whole thread has been a waste of a read.

This looks like it's casual as fuck and catering to the console kiddies. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it

You're not. Even IF you ignore the fact that, from the beginning of the game you're a character who is aware of his destiny and your job is clear cut with no ambiguity (quite the opposite of Daggerfall/Morrowind, where you are a nobody and no one cares who you are until near the end of the main story-line), game play videos already show:

-skill trees (think talent trees from WoW) which showcase the Action-Adventure nature of the game,
-an Inventory screen that shows graphical, 3D representations of every single item that can be rotated (what a needless waste of resources, I wonder what they squandered in quantity of content to deliver that pile of crap),
-voice acting (so you know they lost a ton of content just to jam as many voices onto the disk as possible, so BAWXERS don't need to read, cause, ya know, reading is hard)
-limited conversation options with NPCs (slightly more than Oblivion, but no where near the depth of Daggerfall/Morrowind)
-Quest compass, and failing that, if you STILL can't figure out where the hell you're going, you get an ability that lights a glowing trail that you can follow directly to your destination.

I wouldn't be surprised if side-quests and magic are all still neutered like they were in Oblivion. The game is shaping up to be a 12 year old BAWXER'S wet dream, much to the bane of real gamers (e.g., PC gamers).

Thank god there's still the Battlefield series, where the developers have taken a stand against the console market and are making a good game for the PC first then porting a crappier version to the console.

Edit: Case in point: This idiot here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLaAz3PtDY0 hypes up a ton of these features as if they are new or revolutionary. Dialogue depending on the NPCs disposition? That was old with Daggerfall. Crafting? Daggerfall. And all at the cost of what? A world even smaller than Morrowind (which, while smaller than Daggerfall, gained a lot in precise detail and hand-placed objects that flesh out the world), which means we're also sacrificing size of content as well as world lore. More gimmicky combat (finishing moves, perks, etc... that belong in an Action-Adventure, not an RPG), etc...etc... to any TES fan who played Daggerfall / Morrowind, it sounds like it'll be a crap game meant to cater to XBOXers. Ugh. Really? A management system that allows custom configuration of your appearance?

I also wonder what they squandered in content by nearly tripling the amount and size of dungeons and actor dialog.

Wow I thought I was bitter. Listen: shut up.

No, really. It's voice acting. It's called immersion. Just because the rest of the world is advancing and you're clinging to the golden era doesn't mean saying this kinda shit doesn't make you sound dumb.

Ok I can see a legitimate complaint about this.

Ahahaha oh wait, no, I've actually thrown precious days away playing the hell out of Morrowind and know for a fact that a ton of NPCs had copy/pasted text responses. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

OH NO. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Turn it off. Christ. No one said you had to use it.

No one at Bethesda has any good bloody reason to make this game specifically to your overly picky tastes. Just play the game, and then when a massive amount of mods come out you can tweak the game. Have you played Oblivion modded before? No? Then go re-install and mod the shit out of it. It really does make it fun, not to mention even prettier than it already was.
