You actually do not have to be the right deity to make an item, just the right race. Starting in Qeynos, Any Human can make any Human cultural (wearable, but not craftable, by Barbs, Erudites, and Half Elves).
A cleric or shaman of the correct diety needs to imbue a gem to create a deity specific item, but the blacksmith just needs to be the right race.

It's really not as hard to get a set of banded on your own as you might think. I've been messing around with a few characters and seeing how blacksmithing works for both and I was easily able to get to banded on my Barbarian by lvl 10. On my Ogre, who seems to make much more money in Feerrot than my Barb could in Everfrost, had nearly high enough black smithing to start banded by level 5. It's really not that bad. I think anyone could do it by lvl 15 and still have enough money for all the spells they need, etc.

I will be starting in Qeynos and I'm looking for others also starting there to help make Day 1 banded possible. A number of you have expressed that you are willing to delay starting your preferred character in other starting cities to help me on server opening. I've decided that I'd rather everyone focus on their own character and only ask assistance of those who are starting in Qeynos.

I was the first non-anon to 16 when Beta opened and I successfully mastered smithing within a few hours of server launch. Some of the strategies I used to accomplish this have received multi-level nerfs but I have Plans B-Z to fall back on. I'm more confident than ever that Day 1 banded is happening.
