I don't like this idea because it could have negative effects on gameplay that are definitely not classic (being able to see mob spawns from half the zone away, knowing where the boat is if it's just leaving freeport or something). They're small things, but things that weren't classic.

because of the curvature of the earth we can't see more than a few miles, in eq there is no curvature, so to get the same realistic effect depends on clip plane.
with no clip plane you'd have a sense that something just "isn't right" but may not consciously know what it is.

Can the server/bandwidth handle this? This is the most populous server on EQ emu at any given time, with close to 1000 people on per night. To have the server send 3x the mob info to each individual toon may not be possible without affecting gameplay. A dev would have to way in, but I don't even think on current EQ live the clip goes that far, for good reason.

I have tested this on my own server yesterday - even with same insanely huge settings for clip limit, you still cannot see any mobs beyond about 1,000 clicks, and terrain blurs away beyond 2,000
