The problem is, people are way too smart now for this ever to be a truly classic experience. We know that leveling in random spots in Norrath isn't as fast as Unrest and Guk. We know exactly where to farm items, how to work mechanics to our advantage. We know all the ZEMs we have the game way to figured out. With that being said, I'm one of those people with five level 60's, lots of plat and gear and I'd LOVE to see a server wipe and start over fresh.

The real "classic" experience was running the game on Windows 98 with a low-end Pentium and a 3dfx Voodoo card, a 40lb CRT displaying at 640x480, and a dialup connection that would rarely connect at anything higher than 24,000bps.

i quit during live velious because I disliked it so much and already felt the deviation from the original game, I feel you OP I really prefer classic/kunark but alas as a collective EQ players are niche enough we gotta make some compromises you feel

During 1999-2000, 33/56K modems were already losing the battle to cable/DSL if I remember correctly. Broadband wasn't terribly impressive, however.
Maybe some of you folks played on really old equipment, but let's not go too crazy on how fast/slow things were. Sure, if you tried to run maximum clipping and particle effects during a raid, you'd have a bad time, but I don't recall having any fundamental gaming issues with reasonable settings.
