So I need to step in here apparently.

It had nothing to do with passwords being given out. It has everything to do with the platinum and items he received on his character.

Most likely he obtained a hand-off from someone who was carrying an item ID that was flagged for association with RMT. If they suspect someone is an RMT mule what they do is track + ban whatever it does.

Often times these alleged RMT mules are actually normal players (go figure) who also happen to RMT. RMT is a hobby of smaller scale than people often consider. Its literally just something they like to do. Like buy and sell items. The money they get they don't care about. Its like playing the EC tunnel, just a different set of rules.

Its very easy for a GM to recklessly ban someone for RMT because what it looks like in log files, isn't always what it is, especially when you are just going by "where did the items end up? whats his relationship to the player" which is very flimsy.

This is why enforcement went in the direction of RMT stings, because then its more smoking-gun and no guesswork.

Stings are not the only method of enforcement. Hence allowing this ban to occur in error.

sidenote - would be awesome to have my old forum accounts back, I try every couple months to guess the passwords, the old emails are deleted and even if they weren't I'm pretty sure I would need a series of alt-codes to get it correct... happy to still have the server accounts though =)
