the word press is too closely associated with actual exercise routines for me to want to use it when it comes to an MMO

I'll thrown in a bone here for mob positioning, cause why not

Here's how a Monk maximizes his DPS on Live:
He aims for the best weapons and haste
He also doesn't forget about that Flying Kick button
But with that Flying Kick button he (OR SHE but let's be real) has an entire hot bar set aside to linked combat attacks/discs that run on separate timers and another for a near constant refresh/cycle of DPS boosting discs that also run on different timers and it's up to you to keep on top of.
And don't forget your Mends, your FDs, your insta-Fade FD, your etc. Haven't played in awhile so maybe I was reaching with 4 (probably thinking of my veteran AA stuff) but 3 easily.

And the biggest difference here is that if you're not doing those things, your DPS kind of sucks. A DPS class with kind of shitty DPS isn't really a very good DPS class, now is it.

Getting into the minutiae of gameplay on high end Live and high end p99 is literally no comparison.

Am I saying it's "Hard" as in impossible? Well, no. Of course not. That's stupid. Even I managed to do it and I'm not the best Monk in the history of evers. But I'm pretty good.

But it's absolutely harder than what someone on p99 can do/has to worry about.

I am only speaking authoritatively on Monks because it's the only class on which I have anything resembling any authority (and I don't have much of that, either)

But to my understanding, it's much the same for every other class.

Even Live Warriors, because they have a lot more skills on hand to manage aggro and defense, have to do a lot more in a raid/group than any p99 Warrior will ever try and fail to have to do.

p99 is waaaay the fuck more unforgiving and is "harder" in a few specific senses, but as far as gameplay is concerned, Live is harder all the way. Let's take off the Verant coloured glasses for a minute, here.
I played often until 2010 and I certainly can back up hte whole hotkey thing. Just like EQ2, there're a lot of hotkeys for abilities. I had a ranger. The best abilities are the ones with long timers. There're a lot of short duration timers I don't like much in EQ1 and EQ2. I enjoyed saving up my long timer AA hotkeys for special occasions in EQ1, like near wipes. P1999 has less of that.

But in all honesty I also grew sick of all the hotbars and keys. It felt very bloated. The other thing is the harshness you dismiss is liked by many, including me. Ther'ere other things make p1999 different too, like no GPS map and not the least of which is the old content still being relevant. You can conceivably go the progression servers for old content, but it's hard to hit that perfet sweet spot inbetween classic and Velious, since it's only a matter of months and they're at luclin and planes of power and beyond. P1999 stayed at Kunark for years and will likely stay at Velious for some time. And being more accurate, it has more historical value for longtime players like me.

I do like some other things on live. I like hte fact kick was made automatic. Why honestly is it better to click it over and over and over during a fight? Nearly instant cooldown repeated abilities of this sort should never have been added. Situation specific abilitiies are good, like hide or feign death or tracking. And some need to be both manual and automatic, like backstab.

Hey I'm not arguing one is better than the other.

I'm just arguing that Live is actually hard, and as far as actual gameplay goes, is harder than p99.

They each have pros and cons and whatnot, but it grinds my gears when people act like p99 is just flat out harder than live when that's just plainly not true. In specific ways, yes.

It's a Marvel vs. DC issue, for me, and one I've never taken sides on. Same with p99 and Live. But bad arguments or silly viewpoints will always bug me.

Check out the 'Morrell Thule' server on the server list. It's a server where you get GM access by default. I used that server to learn my way around VP and goofed around on it for a bit. It was shut down for a while but I think it's back up.
Note: This is NOT a P99 or Classic server. It has all expansions up to GoD I think.

But you can make a level 1 and give yourself all the items you want. When it shut down I setup my own EQ Emu server on a VM. I goof around on it from time to time but in all honesty it's not very fun. You can give yourself uber gear but I haven't yet found out how to modify the ZEM to make leveling faster (other than just using GM commands). If you're tech savvy I recommend setting up your own server. But if not, try Morrell Thule.

I think the Morrell Thule with GM commands has unfortunately been offline for several months. I used to tinker on it off and on but have not been able to access it in quite a while. There is a server called Morrell Thule on the list but I don't think it is the same one. The old one with GM commands was called Morrell Thule - Resurrection or something like that.

There was a post back in March about it and the owner brought it back online.
http://www.eqemulator.org/forums/sho...d.php?p=253439

I haven't had a need for it since I setup my own EQ server so I haven't been on it to check it out.
Edit: Just tested. It kicks me to login whenever I try. So the server isn't properly running. You can try reaching out to the owner via EQEmu forums if it matters.
I'd give you my VM image for it but it's 20GB.

This server was the best for exploring / getting a feel for zones / etc etc.

Such a shame it's offline.. was fun while it lasted.

Yep, I remember it being down, then coming back up briefly, then being down/login not working again. I just assumed he took it down for good and someone else put up a similarly named server, but I guess it makes more sense that it's the same one, just with continuing issues. It's rare that I get the urge to play on there so I probably won't delve further into it, but thank you for posting that link. It's nice to know where I can try to contact him if I do want to get in touch with him.

Why not just go to the EZ server?
