I was actually duoing brownie guards today on a 57 ranger (Swiftwind, no Earthcaller) with a 45 druid. We were after brownie parts.

The guards don't give faction hits, but the ones inside the walls do. You may find it worthwhile to kite them around a little after the pull to dispel DS. I found it generally took 3 cancel magics. They do a surprising amount of damage, but are really low hp.

Wolf form sets them to indifferent faction.

How well geared does one need to be to handle the Brownie Guards, do you think? I'd love to find a decent solo XP spot for my 55 Ranger but I am not incredibly well geared (first toon).

I think it's more a level check than gear check. Harmony one. Nullify magic x2 the other to get the DS off. Then you have to have some solid push to keep them from chain healing. A jade mace / fayguard might suffice here, but I was using the Sky haste cloak at the time w/ epic offhand.

I was coming here to suggest brownie guards in LFay. I coulda sworn they were 6min respawns? Kinda fuzzy.
That's the Dark Elves. Which are also great targets during down time, but the warrior is pretty tough and the cleric can ruin your day if she CHes a few times. Need a ton of push for her. I'd kill the guards and run over to Dark Elves if my health and mana were good.

Getting killed in new and exciting locations is part of the ranger experience. I'm glad you gave it a shot!

I honestly find exp in velks to not be so great, not bad, but slow due to the very high hit points on everything.

Because you're not killing the mobs fast enough or you're in too big of a group. Period

Exactly,. If you cant kill the mobs fast enough than the exp will be bad. Some may say that, that is the same advice for ANY zone,..

Velks has a good Zone EXP Modifier. But if you kill the mobs slow as fuck the exp per hour wont be good. If you can kill a ton of mobs fast, the exp per hour is excellent.
I've been in both situations... The ideal group in Velks is a optimal duo or trio. Not a 6 person group.

58-60 you'll do it in no time flat.

2nd floor of CoM will still give you xp. You can actually get Xp off the goo' in the arena at 59 as well. Nothing amazing for drops, but some gems and junk spells and armor.

According to magelo, the raptors in TD are classified as animals on live.

They should make decent fear kiting targets.
