I feel bad for the majority of red players on the red server.* I wish something could be done to improve the situation there. There just isnt much reason to go play there unless you want a single player experience camping your own gear and leveling quickly.

That's the nature of player vs player gaming in this type of setting. The wolves eat the sheep and keep on eating until there aren't any sheep left. Then they turn on each other until most of the wolves are gone, too, leaving the survivors standing around wondering where everyone else went. Small solace is taken in victory when the victors find themselves in control of a barren wasteland with nobody left to rule.

Quite a few of the folks I know who went to Red (and I know a lot from the early days) accepted that as the likely eventual outcome right from day 1 and enjoyed the ride. Some hold out hope for a server reset so the winners can bask in winning "round 1 of Red" while everyone else can get back into it for round 2.

Don't feel bad for them, man. They griefed all the new players off their own server....back in 2014/2015 with their deleveled epic rogues, rangers and warriors, and more recently with (after level requirements were put on epics) their deleveled TOV-geared toons.

That's not an exaggeration, the only thing I would add is it went on in 2016 as well. One of these people can and will shut down a dungeon for as long as they feel like. Then they come here trying to get people to join the server.

There's a difference between Player vs Player and Godmode vs Gnat.

to deal with waiting in line for everything you'll ever want ever. Having no chance at top tier items despite working hard for months, and having to rely on your guild winning FTE for a chance at a loot table. Taking items that aren't exactly what you would want because it could be months before you get another shot at the same dragon twice. What a waste of time it is to play on Blue.
  • Jboots (camped 24/7 on Blue)
  • Stormfeather (camped 24/7 on Blue)
  • Pegasus Cloak (camped 24/7 on Blue)
  • Scout Charisa (camped 24/7 on Blue)
  • Every Dragon (camped 24/7 on Blue)
  • Every Faction Leader (camped 24/7 on Blue)
  • Any Specific Timer Based Mob (good fucking luck 24/7 on Blue)

Raid for years and years on Blue, and still be worse geared than the players on Red. Who when they get bored are killing each other for fun with the spoils of PvE. The closest thing to this you'll find on Blue are the footraces to each dragon to determine which guild gets to kill it. Not to mention the amount of time you can spend staring at the space where a dragon could be along side other players who are attempting to do this longer than you can. I realized this early on, but the Red server is perfect for anyone who wants to have a geared character in Everquest while still maintaining a job or a social life.

Play on a Blue with over 1,000 people preventing you from getting what you want. I won't do it, this game is just too old to care that much. We all know the content and have done most of it before. I have no interest in mastering the nuances of dealing with players who think I've stolen their camp, threaten GM intervention, and who apparently never go to bed.

^ why?

Everything Tune posted is spot-on. We have alts on alts that are better geared than top Blue players. Yes, it would be nice to have a higher pop on red, but it's still fun as it is, especially raiding. It's especially more challenging, fun, and gratifying raiding with 40 players as opposed to 100+.

If you want a set raid schedule, quicker access to pixels, and the ability to play EQ, make gains, and not lawyer quest and FTE yourself to death, come on over.

Its a social game and the population is really low. A new blue player can join one of several leveling guilds which all have a higher pop than the whole red server. Also the four year head start is much more difficult to overcome on a pvp server because people can wreck you, not just mobs. I think when they banned the red to blue to red plat transfers it really killed red. Blue players cant buy their way into decent gear.
